Doubts and Thoughts

Journal Entry: Mon Jun 25, 2012, 8:05 AM

:bulletgreen: I've received today a dA critique in a picture I posted some time ago. I realized that member isn't a premium member. My question is: Are no-premium users ABLE to post critiques now or this person's premium membership just expired today? It would be awesome if no premium members also can post critiques now, seriously :iconblushplz:

:bulletgreen: CEL shading or CELL shading? Ok, I just must know it. Wikipedia says CEL shading but if you write CELL shading in google, you'll find mooooore results than if you write CEL shading. I know that no matter how many results you can find in internet, people could be wrong, but know I'm curious because I've always thought that it's CEL shading. Any idea, people?

:bulletgreen: Ermmm... so lame when I find some artists wanting their watchers thinking that they do the 100% of the work they post. Be careful with them, people, and try not to be fooled so easy by them (no matter how many pageviews that artist has!). COLLABORATIONS are SO ok (I sometimes do collabs), but PLEASE, CREDIT the other person if she/he makes you a significant part of the coloring or the lineart (≥20-30%), EVEN if the other one DOESN'T care if you want to credit her/him or not! I mean, just be a honest artist and don't fool your watchers pretending that you CAN really do what you are showing and EVEN writting sometimes in the artist's comments a random but lame excuse to distract your watchers like... "this is a gift for the-person-who-really-colored-it"  or whatever. If you want to make your watchers thinking that you can achieve such a result, just work harder. There are ALWAYS people who can recognize other people's styles/colorings for sure :XD: Now I really feel so proud and glad that I don't need to do that with my own pictures to achieve my results, seriously X'D I mean, when I have a doubt about some difficult part to draw for me, at least I bother to get my own resources, like everybody does (even if some of them don't wanna admit it or give credit cuz they want you thinking that they are gods XD), because I'm not a "god" and I'll never be one, but be sure that you will NEVER see me posting some coloring/lineart that I never worked by myself, and if I do a collab or if other artist helps/makes >20-30% of the coloring/lineart, I'll always credit that artist for sure and never claim that picture as 100% mine to deceive you and make you think how wonderful "artist" I am.

MY DOUJIN - IN STOCK!

I believe it's cell shading, but I never went to art school.

yay you're totally right - someone who worked on a pictured should be mentioned, artists are still awesome even with the help of others *.*

ikr? but still there are some people (with >1 million of pageviews) that want you thinking that they could color/draw like that for real. They don't credit the other (and the other one doesn't care if she/he's not credited because is also helped by the other one someway) or sometimes they just write in the artist's comment a so random but fake excuse to distract their watchers' attention... I mean, it's ok for them if they don't mind to be credited by the other, but lol, be a HONEST artist with your watchers and don't pretend to be what you really aren't :/

it's a pity that there so many who don't mention the other artist but fortunately great artists like you who speaks (writes) for those artists still exist:3

They changed the rules a few months ago. Anyone can leave critiques now, but only premium members can request them. :D I think it's great too. It makes it more likely that people who ask for crits will get them. As for cell-shading, I always call it cell-shading and I've never heard it called anything else. That is interesting and I'm not sure which one is the proper term. Maybe both are okay?

And I agree with you about the 'giving others credit for what they do' thing. I always credit people in the desc, even if they say I don't "have to". I prefer to give credit where credit is due. There are some artists out there who really do make every part of the artwork themselves. I think it's weird that people would think less of an artist just because they don't make 100% of the artwork though. Collabs can be really cool.
